Day 1 - Macomb to Colby, KS

Day 1 is done, we're now in Colby, KS. 693 miles of driving, and we showed up about 10 PM. I've posted a few photos to our flickr page:

Missouri was pretty much the same as Illinois, cornfields, a few hills...that's about it.
Welcome to Missouri
Chillicothe Airport in Missouri

Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas, there was rain that had been sitting pretty much in the same location for the last few days.....it was still there.
Kansas City was a bit rainy

We took a side trip up to Manhattan, KS, where Sarah and her family used to live before they moved to Macomb.

Pretty but prickly, south of Manhattan, KS

Sarah's family used to live in a house that had been converted to two apartments.
Where Sarah used to live

Sarah's dad got his Doctorate and taught at K-State University in Manhattan, KS
This is the building where Dr. Powers taught

We also drove around Manhattan to see some of the stuff that Sarah remembered
Paul Bunyon Statue in the park
A little blurry, but this is Sarah's old elementary school
Driving around the park, we saw this guy hanging out

We stopped at a rest stop (a few actually) but behind one of them was an interesting looking old farm.

So the first part of Kansas was pretty interesting...rolling hills, scenic views...even though it was rainy. Once you get past Wichita, it pretty much flattens out, kinda boring for driving, but decent for sunsets.

We finally arrived in Colby, KS, just in time to see the full moon rise above the highway.
